Archived or stored coal ash has become a topic of interest with the popular media due to unfortunate storage failures in recent years. I first spoke and wrote on archived coal ash in April 2011 at the National Association of Environmental Professionals annual meeting in Denver. At the meeting, I said coal ash and the person who could find a way to turn archived coal ash into useful products would hit the “jackpot”. I also wondered if regulations would taint and restrict the recycling of coal ash as to essentially “bust” the recycling stream.
Well, click here to read an article about a couple of North Carolina researchers who are hoping to hit the recycling jackpot for coal ash beneficial use.
